Where to Stay as a Family Adopting in Zambia
If you’re looking online at living in Lusaka, chances are that you’re overwhelmed at the prices. We were too.
The reality is that most simple and reasonable accommodation in Lusaka is found by “word of mouth” these days, rather than internet searches. It can be expensive for living expenses (most things that are listed online are) BUT there are some less expensive options.
If you want a hotel for your first night to get settled, the StayEasy hotel has affordable rates and clean rooms. It is also conveniently located near the social welfare offices and in the same parking lot as Levy Junction Mall.
Many guest houses have hosted adopting families with reasonable monthly rates, including Juls Guest House in Kalundu where my husband and I stayed when we first visited Zambia. Most guest houses are fairly reasonably priced, simple, safe, and basic accommodation with good access to transportation (minibuses and taxis), grocery stores, restaurants, and a cinema. Make sure you see the rooms before you commit to anything and ask if extras can be negotiated (DSTV, maid service, etc.).
