Go team Chipolopolo!!!!

I’ve just returned to Zambia from Malawi (more on my trip to come!) and we spent last evening cheering on our Zambia football (soccer) team in the AFCON final match. We made history, here in Zambia, as we were victorious in winning the game!!
We are so proud to be in Zambia and watch our team Chipolopolo (the Copper bullets) beat the Ivory Coast for the win! It was a long match as they had 30 minutes of extra time and then went to penalty kicks and finally sudden death. We watched the game at our pastor’s house who lives outside the city but the cheering and vevuzelas were still very loud! People came outside their homes to dance and celebrate with each other in the street. The game had finally ended around midnight and the cheering went on for most of the night and even still today.
It’s particularly meaningful for Zambia as they played in Libreville, Gabon where all of the Chipolopolo team lost their lives in a plane crash in 1993. Now, 19 years later, they were just a few kilometers from where the former team mates died and they were able to bring the victory to Zambia – the first time to ever win the African Cup. Go Zambia!!
