Lower Zambezi River Cruise

October 25, 2011 § 4 Comments

We spent our Zambian Independence Day celebrating on the waters of the Lower Zambezi River for a mini-Safari. We traveled with our friends from Special Hope Network, who are here in Zambia working with kids with intellectual disabilities. It was a 3 hour drive to get there but the scenery and the company was definitely worth it! Oh, and did I mention it was 97 flipping degrees Fahrenheit?!? It’s definitely the hot and dry season here in Zambia! That blazing African sun is no joke. I think we were a bit nuts to be out in the sun all afternoon. Never in all my life did I wish the pool was colder for our dip at the end of the boat ride! Here are some highlights of our trip:

The Whole Gang - Sam, Mollie, Holly, Jon, Beth, Joab, Eric, and Maggie

Father and Daughter

Hippos

Elephants

Fish eagle - the National Bird of Zambia!

More elephants!

Monkey!

More monkeys!

Friends!

*And if you’re wondering why we swam in the pool instead of the river, just ask the 3 legged dog what he thinks about swimming in the river with all of the wildlife (a.k.a. alligators, hippos, etc.). I’m happy to stay in the pool.
