Will work for clothes: Mzungu Model
August 28, 2012 § 5 Comments
Being a minority in a foreign country will sometimes bring unexpected opportunities. The past two weekends, I modeled for a fashion shoot. Yep, you read that right.
It was definitely one for the record books. I don’t think I’ll ever spend time in the bush in high heels again, although it was definitely fun trying to balance on top of giant rocks with stilettos!
They are going to use the images for a large sign on the outside wall as well as the fashion catalog. So, Lusaka friends, if you’re missing me after we leave in October, you can just drive by and wave hello!
As compensation, I got to pick out two items from the shop. Lucky me! The clothes are made from chitenge (African fabric) using Western style designs. Jewelry is made from locally available material and hand crafted. They are very reasonably priced for the quality so I may have to go buy some more outfits before we leave!
If you’re ever in Lusaka, be sure to check out Christina’s Showroom (located in Woodlands along Chindo Road, opposite St. Mary’s, not too far from Pick n’ Pay). They can also be found at the Arcades Cultural Market on Sundays. Contact them at +26 0975-88 99 30 or +26 0977-89 22 74. They are on Facebook at Kamanga Wear.
